Walled Lake Western HS Senior Kara Manuel awarded scholarship by Lusk Albertson
Lusk Albertson has awarded one of four “LAunch Scholarships” for 2017 to Walled Lake Western High School senior Kara Manuel. She was selected from more than 200 applicants.
Ms. Manuel will attend the University of Michigan this fall, studying neurology with a focus in epigenetics, the study of gene expression. She is particularly interested in studying diseases like Alzheimer’s and Autism. She also plans to continue her Spanish language studies so she will have the ability to speak with a broader range of patients, when she ultimately becomes a doctor.
Manuel is an accomplished violinist, serving as the first stand in the Walled Lake Western Symphony Orchestra and the Metropolitan Youth Symphony. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, the Relay for Life Board of Directors, a member of her high school’s competitive dance team. Manuel graduated from Western with a 4.10 GPA.
“In addition to her academic success, our selection team was impressed with Kara’s efforts to embrace a multi-disciplinary high school experience,” Kevin Sutton, Partner, Lusk Albertson said. “Her engagement in leadership activities, music, and community service evidences what a well-rounded and engaged student and young person she is,” he added.
Manuel will receive $2,500 toward her education at Stanford University. Since 2012, Lusk Albertson has awarded more than $25,000 in scholarships to high school seniors.
