Lapeer HS Senior Kellee Byard awarded scholarship by Lusk Albertson
Lusk Albertson has awarded one of four “LAunch Scholarships” for 2017 to Lapeer High School senior Kellee Byard. She was selected from more than 200 applicants.
Ms. Byard has enjoyed a remarkable high school career. Poised to graduate with a 4.25 GPA, Kellee will pursue her passion for animals and the planet at the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, majoring in a science-related discipline. Tackling significant challenges is nothing new for Byard. As a high school student, she collected baseline data on a local pond’s water level so future AP Environmental Science students might determine if particular plants could thrive at the altered level.
Beyond her academic prowess, Byard is heavily involved in student and community activities. She serves as a mentor in the Grow to Glow mentoring program for middle school children and has a leadership role in the school’s Kiwanis Key Club, which focuses on philanthropic community activities. Kellee is also a member of the National Honor Society, an accomplished varsity athlete, and an award-winning artist.
“Kellee has an amazing resume, but it’s who she is beyond the paper that really stood out to our Scholarship committee,” Kevin Sutton, Partner, Lusk Albertson said. “Kellee has a deep commitment to solve some of our world’s most daunting challenges. A lot of people talk about doing something to change the world, but she unequivocally has the drive, the focus, and the commitment to make a significant and lasting impact.”
Byard will receive $2,500 from the firm to assist with her college costs. Since 2012, Lusk Albertson has awarded more than $25,000 in scholarships to high school seniors.
