The Walled Lake Consolidated Schools made the difficult decision to privatize transportation services in May 2013, in order to permit the District to transfer an estimated $1.5 million from non-instructional to instructional services. The MEA, in response, filed an unfair labor practice charge with the Michigan Employment Relations Commission (MERC) and filed for a preliminary injunction in the Oakland County Circuit Court. On August 21, 2013, the Honorable Rudy J. Nichols denied the MEA’s motion for preliminary injunction based on the brief filed by L&A attorneys Bob Lusk and Mark Tomasik. L&A has also filed a motion for summary disposition requesting the dismissal of the related unfair labor practice charge.
