Q & A: MS. Ryan Clemmons

Where did you decide to attend college (undergrad)?

University of Michigan, Ann Arbor

What major did you choose?  Why?

I have not declared a major yet. I am kind of all over the place with that, actually. I plan on applying to the Ford School of Public Policy, but that won’t be until the end of my sophomore year. If that does not work out, I plan on double majoring in Political Science and International Studies.

Are you thinking about (or in) graduate school?  For what?

Grad school is definitely the eventual goal! I have narrowed it down to two paths: either law school, which I’m leaning towards, or an MPP (Masters in Public Policy).

What is your career goal?

My dream job is to be a lawyer, who focuses on international human rights or civil rights law. I would love to work for the ACLU, the UN, or the State Department.

Fill in the blank:  If I could, I would never ______ again.  Please explain with an additional 2-3 sentences.

If I could, I would never do the dishes again. Not fun.

What advice would you give the next recipients of the LAunch Scholarship, who are about to leave high school and embark on the next chapter of their educational journey?

The #1 piece of advice I give to everyone I know, including my friends, who are about to enter college is to get involved. There is so much learning to be done outside of the classroom. Especially at a huge school like Michigan, student organizations really make the campus feel much smaller. My first semester I joined the club volleyball team and rushed a Pre-Professional fraternity. I wouldn’t trade either experience for the world and the people I’ve met make college feel like home, which is extremely important in such a strange and new atmosphere.
